Shay Todd, Assistant Executive Director
Shay grew up in North Dakota, living in Rugby and Minot, and attended small schools throughout childhood. She has always been a passionate advocate for the “underdog,” particularly the LGBTQ+ community, and has sought opportunities to support these causes. During high school, Shay actively participated in her local chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), where she helped organize their first Day of Silence. This student-led event raises awareness about the silencing impact of anti-LGBTQ+ bullying, harassment, and discrimination in schools and communities.
Shay attended Minot State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and aspiring to work in juvenile justice. This led her to a fulfilling nine-year career working with at-risk youth. She strongly enjoyed working alongside the LGBTQ+ youth within the organization. Encouraged by a mentor, Shay pursued a degree in social work at the University of North Dakota (UND) and graduated in May 2025. An internship led her to join the NDHRC team, where she continues to advocate for and work alongside the LGBTQ2S+ community.
