The North Dakota Human Rights Coalition (NDHRC) is seeking a youth intern to assist with planning and running the North Dakota LGBTQ+ Summit in October 2022.
The intern will participate in planning committee meetings and assist with developing youth-focused programming for the event, raising awareness of the event among LGBTQ+ and allied youth and those working with LGBTQ+ and allied youth, contacting speakers and potential speakers for the event, coordinating with the location, handling communications for the event, including maintaining the website and social media accounts, setting up and handling registration for the event, and other work as needed. During the event itself, the intern may assist with coordinating volunteers, checking in participants, setting up for the event, and other work as needed.
Almost all of the pre-event work will be done remotely, and the work during the event will be in person at the event location in Bismarck, ND.
This is a part-time paid internship (with an anticipated 2-5 hours per week of work over 4 months leading up to the event, and about 40 hours of work at the event itself), and the intern’s travel and lodging costs will be covered for the in person work.
An ideal candidate would have:
- dedication to advancing the rights of and protections for LGBTQ+ youth in North Dakota
- connections with and/or familiarity with the issues facing LGBTQ+ youth in North Dakota
- familiarity with social media and other modes of community engagement
- strong interest and/or experience organizing community gatherings
- ability to take initiative and see projects through completion
- written and verbal communication skills
