Adding Sexual Orientation as a Protected Class in North Dakota (2009)

January 5, 2009 by

The North Dakota Human Rights Coalition is working with partners across the state to introduce legislation to add sexual orientation and gender identity as a protected class in North Dakota.

Have you experienced or witnessed discrimination in North Dakota based on sexual orientation or gender identity? Maybe you have been kicked out of an apartment, fired from a job, denied a home loan, denied a promotion, or denied public accomodation (i.e. bathroom or bus). Maybe you moved because you felt unsafe or unwelcome. Tell us about it using the quick and easy form below.

Our primary concern is to find people to testify at the state legislature. We are also collecting stories of discrimination that have happened here in North Dakota. Some stories may end up on or website or e-mails, others will make it to the floor of the legislature.

If you have not experienced  or witnessed discrimination directly, you can still help! We need everyone to contact their legislators in support of this bill– and to encourage friends, family and colleagues to do the same.

Every e-mail to a legislator and every body present at the hearing will help to pass this important legislation. Find your legislator here.

If you would like to contribute in other ways, please contact NDHRC directly. We will provide opportunities to volunteer, donate or organize.
