3.) Americans with Disabilities Act Threatened (all of North Dakota)

This year, the U.S. Supreme Court will decide a very important case for people with disabilities.  The case is Medical Board of California v. Hason.  The State of California is insisting that federal courts cannot consider the complaint of a person who alleges that the State discriminates against the person based on the person’s disability, contrary to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The Minnesota Attorney General is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to support the lower court’s decision in favor of the ADA.  Some other states are joining Minnesota in support of the ADA.

North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem is now deciding whether North Dakota will join Minnesota in support of the ADA.  Attorney General Stenehjem has supported disability causes but it is unknown whether he will join Minnesota in support of the ADA.

To share your opinion about this, you can contact North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem:

Telephone 701-328-2210

Fax 701-328-2226

Email address wstenehj@state.nd.us

The Attorney General serves all North Dakota residents, even people who did not vote for him.  He can serve you best only if he gets your advice.  If you contact the Attorney General, you must do so immediately.  His decision is due no later than this Friday, February 14.
