Programs Announcements Updates Resources December 4, 2002 Hello members and friends of the North Dakota Human Rights Coalition! Thank you to our new members and contributors! In this week’s PAUR Report:
********************************************* 1.) An Invitation to Hear the Rev. Keith Kron Speak on GLBT Concerns Larry Peterson shares this invitation from Skip Wood: Hi, everyone. Some of you might already know about this, but perhaps you could help spread the word. The Rev. Keith Kron, director of the Unitarian Universalist Association's Office of Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, and Transgender Concerns will be in town this weekend. After he speaks at the church on Sunday the 8th (11am, 121 S. 9th St., Fargo), he'll hold a workshop at 2pm for members and friends interested in discussing how to strengthen commitments to the GLBT community. Keith is an engaging speaker who offered to visit after hearing of the activism surrounding the YMCA membership issue. This will be a nice follow up to the Rev. Anita Hill's visit to Concordia. Visitors are certainly welcome. -Skip Wood ********************************************* 2.) Human Rights Day Activity Set in Moorhead The public is invited to recognize Human Rights Day, Tuesday, December 10, with a celebration at the Moorhead Public Library. The event runs from noon to 1 in the lower level meeting room. A short video will be shown and participants will read through and discuss the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted on December 10, 1948, by the General Assembly of the United Nations. This Declaration guarantees the rights of all people and covers a broad array of economic, political, social, cultural and civil rights. The Moorhead Human Rights Commission is sponsoring the event. Here is a reminder about our chartering meeting this coming Saturday, Dec. 7, at Nativity Catholic Church, 2:00. (If you need a ride or directions, call me at 235-4265.) We will read and discuss our responsibilities in officially chartering our group and sign the document. I’m bringing homemade cookies to celebrate. A few people said they wouldn’t be able to attend, so if you are on the border, deciding whether or not to come, please come. To update everyone, we decided at our last meeting to 1) join the Government Action Network and 2) write letters and educate ourselves on Urgent Actions. If you would like, log on and sign in at www.amnestyusa.org/government and check out this site. Our group may develop a website (two local Fargo-Moorhead members offered space) with a link through Amnesty USA. I am looking forward to seeing all of you this Saturday and hope to meet more people interested in working with us. Everyone is welcome.
