ND Human Rights Commission Gets Press in Bismarck Tribune The effort for a human rights commission is mentioned in a Bismarck Tribune article published yesterday (Thursday). The North Dakota Human Rights Coalition will again ask the Legislature to create a North Dakota Commission on Human Rights, said the coalition's executive director, Cheryl Bergian of Fargo. "We asking the same thing as in past years," she said. Efforts will include providing testimony to the Legislature and the public as to why this is needed, she said. Bismarck City Commission Establishes Human Relation Commission Congratulations to the proactive work of the Bismarck City Commission in establishing the Bismarck Human Relations Committee and to the initial members of the Bismarck Human Relations Committee, appointed on December 17, 2002: Kameran Ali, Dina Butcher, David Gipp, Bob Gomez, Lola Huwe, Wes Long Feather, Amy Schauer Nelson, Aruna Seth, and Rose Stoller. ********************************************* 3.) NDSU Student Earns Roses – Forum Editorial Forum editorial: Student’s convictions earn roses PRAIRIE ROSES: To North Dakota State University junior Paul Yatskis, the Jamestown, N.D., student who authored the Student Senate resolution opposing the use of American Indian names, logos and mascots on the NDSU campus and at the University of North Dakota. We may not agree with his position on the issue, but Yatskis handled it and himself with maturity and integrity during debate. While some of the 28 student senators behaved immaturely, Yatskis came prepared with research and the power of conviction. His leadership elevated the debate above college rivalry and into a civil rights and human respect issue.
