bullet

Awesome, but I wish I could go to all

bullet

It is very hard when you have two presentations at the same time which were of interest

bullet

Great ending session

bullet

The conference ran really smooth

bullet

There are many great people involved with the NDHRC

bullet

Good food, speakers, and discussion of issues facing people in ND and the nation

bullet

This was a really wonderful conference, from the presenters, facility to the open friendly participants

bullet

Excellent topics, knowledgeable presenters, very motivating at a time of personal morning following the election.  Great time to be amongst comrades.

bullet

Great to be in Bismarck

bullet

Thanks for all the planning and arranging

bullet

I appreciate all of the hard work your organization does.  Keep up the good work

bullet

The speakers you choose are always interesting and knowledgeable

bullet

Great job

bullet

Concordia volunteers and other did a great job

Constructive criticism

bullet

No concurrent breakout sessions that do not repeat

bullet

Don’t serve meals so you can charge less

bullet

We need to expand participants, we need to include more businessmen, attorneys, legislators, and other policy makers (e.g. city councils, etc.)

bullet

Too much food at supper/breaks.  Lets save some money in this area

bullet

It would be nice not to have an evening meal and charge less for the conference

bullet

Microphones either separated poorly and or were not used properly.  Speakers did not project

bullet

How were student volunteers scheduled, didn’t see much of them attending sessions. Push for more students/youth involvement, would be great marketing

Would have liked

bullet

Should have a participant list to aid in networking

bullet

List of conference participant contact information to network more easily

bullet

Speakers that have overcome issues or getting ahead

bullet

More discussion of the conservative movement, that is why/who we are up against

bullet

What present administration (governor, etc.) is doing to promote human rights, and what they are doing to stifle human rights coalition goals

Future ideas

bullet

Present statistics (once you have a longer time in existence) about cases and resolutions and what agencies did better jobs of resolutions

bullet

Share cultural diversity events that have served to involve the larger community/schools, etc. and how well they succeeded in moving opinions

bullet

Social event on the first evening

bullet

Have each participant from this year have a “special invite” with scholarships to bring a special guest (legislators, attorneys, etc.) to next years conference.  Have participants give invites and personally check in with these people to make sure they attend.  People who bring a new person get registered for a prize.  Those who bring 2 new people are registered for a bigger prize

bullet

Develop special personalized invites to people outside the “choir” to attend

bullet

Have an action oriented session to brainstorm a topic and then form statewide task groups to work together on a project

bullet

Perhaps we can go to Grand Forks next in continuing to build statewide membership and awareness

bullet

Ask Elmer Four Dance to speak again at a future conference

Personal observations

bullet

My comments are forwarded on the basis that I optimistically believe that more HR commissions will be formed and they will need to share best practices

bullet

As a resident of MN, I wasn’t aware of all the things going on in ND, so things weren’t always clear.  Perhaps more explanation about current events would be helpful.

bullet

Get speaker and presenters that are not racist.  Some of the people at this meeting today are not open-minded (e.g. Tex Hall, some of the natives).  These people have issues.  These issues are 3-4-5 hundred years old.  My family has been in America less than 1 hundred years ago.  During one of the breaks, I was talking to Phillip Standing Crow.  What is that guys problem.  He just stood there and would not talk.  What is his disability?  D. Joyce, what are her problems.  D. Joyce went on and on and on, never making a point

bullet

The state, city, and county don’t communicate together in the disability field.  What is it going to take to get that through your heads.  You think the Indian are discriminated against, so are people with disabilities

bullet

Hear more from Chris Runge and Don Morrison on living wage and right to work

bullet

Bill Patrie gave an excellent speech, it really motivated me

bullet

Tex Hall was also an excellent speaker, it’s nice to have him on our side

bullet

I really enjoyed Bill Patrie, he was a dynamic speaker, very passionate about his goals.  Tex Hall was excellent.  It was interesting to hear even after the discouraging election results that many of the progressive thinkers are still keeping an optimistic outlook

bullet

My favorite talk was the one by Bill Patrie

Ideas for future conference topics and sessions:

bullet

No Child Left Behind

bullet

Breakout and interactive sessions to plan legislative strategies

bullet

Brainstorming sessions or best practices sharing regarding education efforts

bullet

Public safety review

bullet

Commission awareness

bullet

More on disabilities and housing issues

bullet

Children’s rights

bullet

How to raise children with diversity

bullet

Understanding how not to teach racism

bullet

More discussion on how people can cause political change, lobbying, how bills become law, etc.

bullet

How to’s of community organizing

bullet

Topic that would focus on tribal sovereignty and its connections to human rights and other governments

bullet

Housing for individuals who have felony convictions. The right to shelter is a basic need, a need that at the present is being denied

bullet

Removal of newborns from mothers having MI or MR before the mother has the opportunity (right) to attempt parenting

bullet

How to speak with your legislature on HR topics and get people to realize that everyone deserves HR and no one should be able to take them away

bullet

Discussions on disabilities, GLBT, and race issues

bullet

Small business loans
