NATIVE AMERICANS AGAINST

HATE AND VIOLENCE

PRESS CONFERENCE AND PUBLIC PROTEST

WHERE:   WARD COUNTY JAIL, MINOT

WHEN:   FRIDAY, JULY 29 – 2:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M.

WHY:    A public outcry against Hate & Violence in the

Criminal Justice System, to give support to one victim, Douglas Bell, and all victims of violent treatment

We the People, members of the Three Affiliated Tribes, and other friends and relatives of Douglas Bell, a recent victim of police violence, are calling a press conference and public protest.   We invite you to join us to advocate for his civil rights, but more important, his Human Rights!

Douglas is a helpless and defenseless, (mentally ill) victim of police mistreatment and violence in Minot, ND.

He is currently incarcerated and has been charged with four felon counts by the Justice System.  Four days after he was shot twice (police story is self defense and witnesses, whose statements were not taken, claim otherwise) Doug was removed from ICU at Trinity Hospital and taken directly to court to be charged.  His family was not informed, he had no advocate, he did not know what happened nor does he know what the outcome could be.

We, the People, we the justice advocates, want these questions answered:  What are the rights of mentally ill people taken into custody by police?  Who are the advocates assigned to them?  What rights will they have for an objective defense counsel? Why weren’t all witnesses questioned?

Further, we question if this was a Racially motivated incident, which is common amongst People of Color in this nation, and in our state.

WE ASK YOU TO JOIN US IN THIS PRESS CONFERENCE/ PUBLIC PROTEST!

CONTACT 701-627-3869 FOR MORE INFORMATION.
